Instead для DOS

One evening, I thought, what if I ran the Instead engine under DOS? It’s literally a text-based game engine. Graphics and sounds are far from essential. That way, I could play modern games designed for the Instead engine.

I stripped everything down to the bare minimum, created a C interface for DOS, and compiled it using DJGPP. And if the game file isn’t an IDF, but a bunch of Lua scripts, you need to ensure the filenames are in 8.3x format. You can safely delete the graphics and sounds; they won’t be readable anyway. So, the entire game can easily fit on a single floppy disk.

It runs on my 486 processor with 8 MB of RAM. The minimum requirements are 386 and 4 MB of RAM. On the screen is a educational project that my son and I are writing to learn game development.

Много делаю всякого с ретрокомпьютерами и некоторые даже находят применение. Например, как печатная машинка с Лексиконом. Но поскольку печатная машинка под рукой не всегда есть, а файлы поредактировать хочется, то сделал такое расширение для своей любимой IDE. Багов херова гора, но мне пока что хватает.
